"Perv mode activated!": OpenAI set to launch new ChatGPT NSFW "adult" settings

The unfortunate truth about new technology is that someone, somewhere will inevitably use it to make x-rated content.

Until now, ChatGPT has been a buttoned-up model that is prohibited from producing NSFW material thanks to strict OpenAI policies.

But all that's about to change. Sam Altman, CEO, has confirmed that the company will loosen restrictions to let ChatGPT produce "erotica".

Developers have been calling for both Sora and ChatGPT to be given an "adult mode" for years now, so that they can use the models to churn out smut.

Now OpenAI has finally bowed to their grubby demands.

On X, Altman admitted the firm made ChatGPT "pretty restrictive to make sure we were being careful with mental health issues".

"We realize this made it less useful/enjoyable to many users who had no mental health problems, but given the seriousness of the issue we wanted to get this right," he added.

"Now that we have been able to mitigate the serious mental health issues and have new tools, we are going to be able to safely relax the restrictions in most cases."

This means a new version of ChatGPT with a personality set to its operator's preferences - as well as new options that are likely to prove controversial.

"In December, as we roll out age-gating more fully and as part of our 'treat adult users like adults' principle, we will allow even more, like erotica for verified adults," Altman wrote.

A photographer from New Hampshire then left a comment beneath his post which said: "Why do age-gates always have to lead to erotica? Like, I just want to be able to be treated like an adult and not a toddler, that doesn't mean I want perv-mode activated."

"You won't get it unless you ask for it," Altman confirmed.

Jailbreakers of the world, unite and takeover

Ever since the launch of ChatGPT, people have been hard at work trying to make it break its own rules and produce adult material.

On a Reddit jailbreaking forum, users reacted with shock after OpenAI finally gave them the feature they had been looking for, questioning whether it would really be the adult mode so many high-tech heavy breathers had been waiting for.

"Oh I really hope this happens," one person crowed.

"Let's hope for the best, but let's not get too excited about it," another wrote. "If they actually do the age verification stuff and enhance the erotica writing stuff, there's still a chance that they just regret those actions and rollback to the braindead super safe GPT model once again."
